Hi there – Happy to have found your blog. So awesome that you’re sharing Tikka’s experiences with us. I love traveling with my adorable mixed terrier pup, Charlie. We’ve traveled within the US by plane and train.
This is our first time overseas. We are heading to Rome in a month. I’m considering taking the train to another city for a couple of days and can’t decide between Amalfi coast, Naples or Florence. In your experience, which of these are more dog friendly? I intend to take her everywhere I can. She’ll have little to no time alone. I’d prefer not to leave her in the room if I don’t have to.
Also, I have a large sherpa carrier that travels well, but I do like the sturdi look. is the bottom solid so Tikka can rest comfortably while you’re walking? Thanks!

That is a hard one, all those places are so fantastic. We have a soft spot for Florence and Tikka was welcomed everywhere she went. If you want another city adventure, then I would pick Florence, and if you want something more different than Rome, then the Amalfi Coast would be the way to go. Both places are dog friendly, maybe Florence just a touch more.
Yes, the sturdi has a solid bottom and was easy to carry.

Hi. Thanks for doing this blog. I’m planning to spend a year or so in the British isles and can’t bear to leave our dog behind. But I’m concerned about the actual transit. How did you take Tikka? Could you bring her in the plane cabin or did you have to put her in cargo? It breaks my heart to think our Penny would have to be in cargo but she’s a 30kg Lab so won’t be in the cabin!! Any suggestions? (I may have missed a page where you talk about this)

Hi – When we brought Tikka to Europe, she was small enough to come into the cabin with us. I have not travelled to the British Isles with a dog before, but I believe it entails a few more steps ( wormer treatment for example). For the actual transit, I would work with Penny and the crate well in advance so that she is happy in her space. Before Tikka’s first plane trip we also took her to the airport a few times, walked around and had some lunch. The day of the flight we went for a very long walk many hours before the flight. She then had time to drink a lot of water but also time to empty her bladder. Before we went into the airport we made sure we left enough time for a leisurely walk outside the airport- time to have a sniff and take care of business but kept it leisurely so that she didn’t need to drink excess water.
